1 Hana's Suitcase [With CD]
Levine, Karen
Albert Whitman & Company 0807531499 / 9780807531495 Library Binding with Audio CD
In March 2000, a suitcase arrived at a children's Holocaust education center in Tokyo, Japan. On the outside, in white paint, were these words: Hana Brady, May 16, 1931, and Waisenkind--the German word for orphan. Children who saw the suitcase on display were full of questions. Who was Hana Brady? What happened to her? They wanted Fumiko Ishioka, the center's curator, to find the answers. In a suspenseful journey, Fumiko searches for clues across Europe and North America. The mystery of the suitcase takes her back through seventy years, to a young Hana and her family, whose happy life in a small Czech town was turned upside down by the invasion of the Nazis. Includes the original CBS radio documentary in full.

2 Hana's Suitcase: A True Story
Levine, Karen
Albert Whitman & Company 0807531472 / 9780807531471 Paperback
In 2000, a suitcase arrived at a children's Holocaust education center in Tokyo, Japan, marked "Hana Brady, May 16, 1931." The center's curator, searches for clues to young Hana and her family, whose happy life in a small Czech town was turned upside down by the invasion of the Nazis. We had initially borrowed this from the library here in Vancouver. I wanted to show Jared a different side of war; he has been fascinated by all the weaponry. Reading this was sad but perfect. Scattered throughout the journal entries are Hana's own drawings. It also gave us a glimpse of what it is like for those who survive the war but must live with the memories of it. Note: we stock another edition that includes the original CBS radio documentary in full.
